Abstract submission instructions
Abstract Submission Deadline: 15 September 2008
Due to space limitations there is a limit of one oral abstract (and two abstracts maximum overall) per lead author.
Please note that registration fees must be paid before you will be able to submit an abstract. Both processes occur through the registration portal.
Online abstract submission
All abstracts for oral or poster presentations must be submitted on-line through the registration portal. Deadline for submission of abstracts is 15 September 2008. The instructions for composing and submitting abstracts are listed below. All Abstracts need to be of high quality or they may be rejected by the Program Committee. Always remember that registration and payment are required before you will be allowed to submit abstracts.
Please note that the Program Committee invests a significant emphasis on the poster sessions during the Symposium.
Abstract submission guidelines and instruction
In order to submit an abstract for presentation at the 29th Symposium on Sea Turtle Biology & Conservation you must follow the instructions provided herein. Instructions and guidelines for submission are available through the registration portal.
Please note that upon submitting an abstract, you must choose the appropriate session for your abstract based on the session titles and descriptions and label your submission accordingly. If your abstract does not fit into one of these sessions, please label it 'Other', and we will place it in the most appropriate session.
Abstract categories
The Program Committee will lead us through the following thematic sessions:
- Conservation though social, economic, cultural and legal pathways
- Breeding biology - Nesting beach studies, adult & hatchling biology, hatchling survivorship
- Foraging biology - Pelagic & coastal habitats
- Turtle use / sustainable use
- Bycatch & other mortality factors
- Migration, movement and remote sensing
- Environmental parameters impacting turtle biology
- Genetics and stock recognition
- Health, physiology, disease & toxicology
In addition, there will the following special session
- Australian Sea Turtles mini-symposium
- Name of presenting author
- Email of presenting author (an email contact is required)
- Fax number of presenting author
- Date this information was submitted (DD/MM/YY)
- Title of presentation (ALL IN UPPERCASE)
- All authors of the presentation in the order you want them to appear in the program. Place each author's name on a separate line.
- Author(s) affiliation(s) in the same order as above. Please clarify any multiple affiliations
- Abstract describing your presentation (500 words maximum). The abstracts must be submitted in English.
- The session to which you are submitting your presentation. You must choose the most appropriate session based on the descriptions. If it does not fit under any of the sessions, please label it as 'Other' and we will place it in the most appropriate session.
- Specify the type of presentation you wish to make. Your choices are: prefer oral, prefer poster, prefer speed session, or no preference.
- Equipment needed. Your choices are: computer projector with MS Power Point, video/DVD player, or other (please give details).
- Indicate whether you are a student and whether you would like to be considered for the Archie Carr Student Paper Awards (given to both oral and poster presentations of merit). Recently graduated presenters who are presenting work done as students will qualify for these awards.
THE DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION OF ALL ABSTRACTS IS 15 SEPTEMBER 2008.
PLEASE NOTE THAT ABSTRACTS SUBMITTED BY MAIL WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED UNTIL THE AUTHOR HAS REGISTERED AND PAYMENT HAS BEEN RECEIVED.
Notice of acceptance
Final decisions on abstract acceptance will be made by the Program Committee. All first authors will be notified of the acceptance of their oral or poster by 15 November 2008. If you need an acceptance letter sent to someone other than yourself, please specify this in your abstract submission.
Should your abstract be accepted for presentation as a poster, please review our suggested Poster Preparation Guidelines.
Proceedings
In this Symposium we will make an attempt to have the Proceedings ready on-site. For this reason, all submissions will be limited to 500 words (without graphics and/or tables).
Cancellations
If for some serious reason you need to cancel your presentation, please immediately inform the Program Co-Chairs, Mark Hamann and Tony Tucker (program@turtlesbrisbane2009.org), or the Program Coordinator DuBose Griffin (GriffinD@dnr.sc.gov). Those who fail to present their papers or posters without cancelling in advance of the symposium will not be allowed to present in subsequent symposia.
