29th Symposium on Sea Turtle Biology & Conservation

Social event details

Welcome Event - Mon 16

A night of promised creativity, good food, stimulating entertainment and a memorable experience. More information coming soon.

Sea Turtle Video Night - Tues 17

A visual bonanza

On Tuesday evening the sea turtle community will showcase multimedia presentations aimed at raising awareness of sea turtle biology and conservation around the world. Presentations will include videos, movie excerpts, animations, games or musical pieces that communicate a conservation message with the wider community.

We invite anyone with presentations that they would like included in the video night program to contact Karen Arthur (videos@turtlesbrisbane2009.org) with the title and format of their presentation. Due to the popularity of the video night we will restrict each piece to 8 mins and preference will be given to items that have not previously been featured at International Sea Turtle Society meetings.

Learn, be inspired, and relax with friends.

Live Auction (& Silent Auction) - Weds 18

Delegates and others bring donated items from all around the world to be auctioned off in the silent auction and the live auction to raise money for the travel grants for the next symposium.

Silent auction - Tues to Weds

Every year delegates look forward to browsing the silent auction displays in search of a treasure or a bargain from a far off culture. All for a good cause, they bid on paper and cross their fingers for a win. People revisit the silent auction area frequently to check the progress of their bids or to pass the time during breaks. The silent auction ends the afternoon of the live auction.

Live auction - Weds 18

The live auction evening is very casual and a lot of fun as old friends and new acquaintances vie to outbid each other. It is a firmly entrenched fundraising tradition not to be missed.

Donation of items

We encourage all delegates, sponsors and exibitors to donate items for the silent and live auction. Proceeds of both auctions contribute to the travel grants for the next symposium. It is amazing what is brought along each year. Both the donating and purchasing generosity of the sea turtle community is fantastic.
