Volunteering
What's vounteering about?
Every symposium altruistic delegates put their hands up to assist the organisers.
If you are registered for the symposium and you'd like to offer some of your time (a few hours to a few days) in the lead up to the symposium or during it please email volunteers@turtlesbrisbane2009.org
Volunteers do not get paid, but hopefully find the appreciation and thanks of others recompense enough!
- Meet new people
- Be part of a team
- Share your skills, &/or learn new ones
- Bask in the glow of the gratitude of the Organisers
What sorts of tasks do volunteers do?
Volunteers may be involved in...
- Providing translation assistance to delegates engaged in turtle discussions
- Packing registration satchels
- Registering and displaying donated auction items
- Manning the silent auction
- Helping out at the live auction
- Guiding delegates between symposium events
- Providing local knowledge to answer delegate questions
- Sourcing information for the Organising Committee
- And there are always many other tasks...
Call for translators
Saw a good talk and like to chat to the speaker at morning tea but language is a barrier to a really effective discussion? Want directions to the bank but can't understand the local Australian accents? A Translation Volunteer may be able to help you out.
In order to be able to offer such a service at the symposium we need your assistance! We are seeking bilingual symposium delegates who can volunteer some of their time during the symposium to help facilitate informal discussions between delegates.
What's involved?
We will assign you a day to act as a 'Community Translation Volunteer'.
During this day you will be asked to wear the identifying apparel we
provide and act as a translator as required by your peers. You are
still free to attend talks, etc but are asked to facilitate discussions
during breaks etc. when approached by symposium delegates who require
translation.
Students - this is a great opportunity for you to become involved in some exciting discussions and meet your sea turtle peers.
If you have bilingual skills and are happy to put them to good use, then contact us at volunteers@turtlesbrisbane2009.org and tell us what languages you think you can help with and how many days you would be willing to volunteer for.
